Digital W-9

Complete, certify, and manage authorization for your Digital W-9.

What this is

The Tax documents page hosts your Digital W-9: legal name, business name, federal tax classification, taxpayer ID, and address, plus certification and merchant authorization controls.

Why it matters

Your taxpayer identification number is encrypted and never shown in general account areas. Certifying your W-9 confirms the information is correct and authorizes Diversified Affiliates to use the document for applicable payout reporting.

How to do it

  1. Open Tax documents. The Status indicator near the top shows "Not started," "Draft," or "Certified."
  2. Fill in your Legal name, optional Business name, Federal tax classification (individual/sole proprietor, C corporation, S corporation, partnership, LLC, or other), Taxpayer ID type (Social Security number or Employer identification number), your Taxpayer ID, optional Account numbers, and your address.
  3. Click "Save draft" to store your entries without certifying yet.
  4. When ready, check "I certify under penalty of perjury that the information on this W-9 is correct," type your full legal name in Certification name, then click "Certify W-9."
  5. Once certified, the document is locked; to change anything afterward, click "Create new version," which creates a fresh version and requires you to re-enter your taxpayer ID.
  6. Under "Merchant tax authorizations," choose a connected merchant from the dropdown, optionally add a note, and click "Authorize" to let that merchant request a protected copy of your masked tax details for payout reporting.
  7. Click "Revoke" next to any authorization to withdraw a merchant's access at any time.
  8. Review "Version history" for every version you have saved, and "Access history" for recent activity involving your certified document.

What happens next

Only merchants you explicitly authorize can request your masked tax details. Revoking an authorization stops future access but does not undo anything already retrieved before the revocation.

Common mistakes

Do not leave your W-9 in Draft status if a merchant is waiting on it before paying you; only a Certified W-9 can be authorized for merchant access. Also remember your taxpayer ID must be re-entered whenever you create a new version, since it is not carried over for security reasons.

In short

Fill in your W-9, certify it once it is accurate, and manage exactly which authorized merchants can access it, all from the Tax documents page.
