Why applications are declined

Common reasons a merchant rejects an application, and when you can reapply.

What this is

Sometimes a merchant reviews your application and rejects it instead of approving it. When this happens, your application status changes to Rejected and the program page may show a merchant note explaining why.

Why it matters

Knowing the common reasons helps you address the issue before reapplying, and helps you understand that a rejection is the merchant's decision, not a platform penalty.

Common reasons for rejection

Merchants may select from these standard reasons: your audience or traffic does not meet the program's requirements, your promotional methods are not permitted by the program, your geography is not supported by this specific program, your profile is incomplete or could not be verified, your business competes or conflicts with the merchant, a prior policy violation exists on your account, the program is not currently recruiting new affiliates, or another reason the merchant explains in their note.

How to do it

  1. Open the program page and check the "Your application" or "Application history" section for a merchant note attached to the decision.
  2. Review your Profile page and update anything relevant, such as your audience description or promotion methods, if the rejection suggests your profile did not fully represent your fit for the program.
  3. Wait for the program's reapplication cooldown to pass. Diversified Affiliates enforces a 30-day cooldown after a rejection before you can submit a new application to the same program.
  4. After the cooldown, return to the program page. If your prior application was rejected or withdrawn, an "Apply again" option appears in Your Programs.

What happens next

Your rejected application remains visible in the program's Application history for your records, along with the date it was submitted and decided.

Common mistakes

Do not reapply immediately hoping for a different outcome. Nothing changes unless you address the merchant's stated reason, and the platform will block a resubmission within the 30-day cooldown regardless.

In short

A rejection is a merchant decision with a stated reason. Review the note, improve what you can, and wait out the 30-day cooldown before reapplying.
