Merchant staff and roles

The staff roles available for your merchant organization and what each is for.

What this is

A merchant organization can have staff members assigned one of a fixed set of roles: owner, administrator, program manager, affiliate manager, finance, creative, compliance, or read only.

Why it matters

Roles scope what a staff member can do. For example, the Creatives page notes that staff without management permission "can view creatives but cannot change them," which reflects a role like read only or a role not granted creative management.

How to do it

  1. The account that completes merchant onboarding is assigned the owner role automatically.
  2. Assign additional staff to your organization using roles appropriate to their responsibilities: administrator for broad management, program manager for running programs, affiliate manager for affiliate relationships, finance for payments and commissions, creative for creative assets, compliance for policy and review matters, and read only for view-only access.
  3. Review a staff member's assigned role whenever access seems too broad or too narrow for their job.

What happens next

Staff see and can act on only the areas their role permits; for instance, only staff with creative management permission can edit, submit, publish, or archive creatives.

Common mistakes

Do not assign owner or administrator broadly; reserve those for people who need full control, and use narrower roles like finance or creative for focused responsibilities.
