Attribution windows, coupons, and direct links
How long a referral stays credited and how coupon and direct attribution fit in.
What this is
The attribution window is how long a referred visit stays credited to an affiliate. It is a required field when creating a program and can be set to values such as 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days.
Why it matters
If an order happens after the attribution window closes, it will not be credited to the referring affiliate. Setting this correctly balances fairness to affiliates against how long you are willing to owe a commission.
How to do it
- Set the attribution window when creating or editing your program.
- Describe how coupon use is handled in your program terms, since the Program Terms Builder has a dedicated field asking which coupons affiliates may promote and how.
- Document geographic eligibility and promotional methods in the same terms so affiliates understand what is allowed.
What happens next
Any order or lead reported within the attribution window of a valid click is eligible to be matched to that affiliate; the exact matching happens automatically based on your integration data.
Common mistakes
Do not set an attribution window that is too short for your typical purchase cycle, or affiliates will lose credit for legitimate referrals that convert slowly.
See Understanding Program Terms for the coupon use and geographic eligibility fields.
