Commission rule priority
What determines which commission rule applies when more than one could match.
What this is
Your program's commission structure, defined in your program terms, is what the platform evaluates against each qualifying conversion to decide the commission amount.
Why it matters
If your program terms describe tiers or exceptions (for example, a different rate for a particular product category), affiliates and your own team need a shared, unambiguous description of which rule wins.
How to do it
- Write your commission structure field in the Program Terms Builder to explicitly state any tiers, product exceptions, or conditions, since this field is what defines rule priority in plain language for both sides.
- Keep the commission event field precise about what has to happen (for example, a completed and paid order that is not refunded) so there is no ambiguity about when a rule applies at all.
- Use Test Tracking to confirm a test order produces the commission amount you expect before relying on it for live traffic.
What happens next
Every conversion is evaluated against your published terms; a clearly written structure avoids disputes about which amount should have applied.
Common mistakes
Do not leave overlapping conditions undefined, for example two different rates that could both apply to the same order; spell out which one takes priority in the commission structure field.
